1. BUILDING YOUR COLLECTOR CIRCLE

A practical intensive for artists who want to understand how collectors actually emerge around an artistic practice, how trust develops before a sale, and how individual buyers can gradually become a real collector circle.

Collectors are often discussed as though they were a separate species somewhere on the other side of the art world. In practice, collecting usually develops through familiarity, context, repeated encounters and the feeling that somebody has been allowed to understand an artist’s work well enough to want a lasting relationship with it.

This workshop looks closely at that process.

We will examine why people begin collecting art, what can make somebody move from interest to acquisition, how to recognise early signs of collecting potential, where those people may already spend their time, and how an artist can develop relationships without making every conversation feel like a sales attempt.

You will also learn how galleries and dealers think about trust, follow-up and long-term relationship building, then adapt those principles to an independent artistic practice.

Inside the intensive

You will learn how to:

  • understand the psychology behind collecting and the different forms of value people attach to art;
  • identify the people most likely to respond seriously to your work;
  • recognise potential collectors before a first purchase has happened;
  • find collecting potential beyond the usual art-world circuit;
  • use studio visits, invitations and personal conversation more effectively;
  • understand the role of professional validation in a purchasing decision;
  • organise contacts and follow-up so promising relationships do not simply disappear;
  • think beyond individual sales and begin building a collector circle that can develop over years.

This intensive is particularly useful if your sales currently feel accidental, you depend heavily on intermediaries, or you know people respond to your work but have never built a clear structure around those relationships.

You will receive

  • the full recorded workshop;
  • a cleaned transcript;
  • Smart Study Notes;
  • Reflection & Practice exercises designed to help you apply the material to your own collector landscape.

Taught by curator Jenia Yanes.

2. REPUTATION & PR STRATEGY FOR ARTISTS

An intensive on how an artist becomes publicly legible: how reputation is formed around the work, how people remember and describe you, and how Instagram, PR and professional communication can support a serious artistic career.

An artist can make excellent work and still remain difficult to place.

People may encounter the work without understanding the larger practice, see an Instagram account that communicates something entirely different from the artist’s professional ambitions, or repeatedly come across the artist without ever developing a clear sense of why that person matters.

Reputation is built through accumulation. The work itself remains central, but the way it is framed, spoken about, photographed, encountered and remembered changes how other people understand its significance.

This workshop examines that architecture in detail.

We will look at artistic positioning, public image, communication, interviews, social media, PR, collaborations and the professional signals that gradually make an artist more recognisable and easier to place within the art world.

A substantial part of the workshop is dedicated to Instagram, because it can be extremely useful when it supports the career you actually want. The challenge is building an independent audience without allowing platform logic to flatten the artist into a content creator or weaken future institutional credibility.

Inside the intensive

You will learn how to:

  • make your artistic position easier for other people to understand and remember;
  • identify the themes and associations that should consistently surround your practice;
  • develop a public image that belongs to the work instead of feeling like a separate personal brand;
  • use Instagram as part of a professional strategy compatible with galleries, collectors and institutions;
  • understand how reputation develops through repeated public signals;
  • approach interviews, collaborations and external communication more deliberately;
  • create stronger reasons for journalists, curators and other cultural professionals to pay attention;
  • build an independent public presence without making constant content production the centre of your career.

This workshop is especially relevant if your work feels stronger than the way it is currently presented, your online presence has grown without a clear strategy, or you want more independence while keeping institutional paths open.

You will receive

  • the full recorded workshop;
  • a cleaned transcript;
  • Smart Study Notes;
  • Reflection & Practice exercises for applying the material directly to your own positioning and public presence.

3. THE ARTIST EXTERNAL STRATEGY BUNDLE

Building Your Collector Circle + Reputation & PR Strategy for Artists

Two intensive workshops on the part of an artistic career that exists around the work itself: the people who collect it, the reputation that gives it context, and the public structures that allow the right audience to find and understand it.

These workshops were originally taught as a pair because the two subjects are closely connected.

A collector rarely responds to an artwork in complete isolation. They encounter an artist through exhibitions, recommendations, social media, conversations, publications and other signals that gradually create familiarity and trust.

At the same time, public visibility becomes far less useful when there is no structure behind it. Thousands of people can see an artist without understanding the practice well enough to remember it, recommend it or eventually collect it.

The bundle gives you both sides of that architecture.

BUILDING YOUR COLLECTOR CIRCLE

Learn how collector relationships develop, why people begin collecting, how to recognise potential interest, where collectors may already be found, and how to build a long-term circle around your work through studio visits, follow-up and professional relationship building.

REPUTATION & PR STRATEGY FOR ARTISTS

Learn how to make your practice more legible and memorable in public, develop a coherent reputation around the work, use Instagram intelligently, and build visibility that can support both independent growth and future institutional opportunities.

Together, the workshops will help you examine

  • who your work is reaching and who you want it to reach;
  • how somebody moves from first encounter to trust;
  • how reputation affects artistic and commercial decisions;
  • how collectors, curators and other cultural professionals read the signals around a practice;
  • how your public presence can strengthen the career you are trying to build;
  • how independent audience growth can coexist with serious fine-art ambitions;
  • how to organise the relationships around your work with far more intention.

The bundle includes

Building Your Collector Circle

  • full workshop recording;
  • cleaned transcript;
  • Smart Study Notes;
  • Reflection & Practice exercises.

Reputation & PR Strategy for Artists

  • full workshop recording;
  • cleaned transcript;
  • Smart Study Notes;
  • Reflection & Practice exercises.

If you are trying to build a more independent career without disconnecting yourself from galleries, collectors and institutions, I would start with the bundle. The two workshops address different parts of the same question: what has to exist around strong work for a serious artistic career to grow?
